LATIN AMERICA: "What's Going On?" February 2010

5Q

Santos Feliz Ruiz has one of the greatest names I know.  His first and middle name actually mean “Holy and Happy”.  It’s true, he is one of the happiest and holiest men I know.  He has served as an evangelist in his homeland, the Dominican Republic, most of his adult life.  He is the minister for a 600 plus member congregation in Barahona. Also, since 1991 he has been a regular co-host of the television program Con La Biblia Abierta, With the Open Bible.

Haiti, rocked by the tragic earthquake sent tremors all the way to Barahona, Dominican Republic, where Santos lives.  Haiti and the Dominican Republic are sister countries, sharing a mountainous border which joins the island nations together.  Santos is teaming up with the recovery efforts to bring relief to the suffering.  Please pray for both of these nations, and for the churches which are working to respond to the needs there.

Santos is also one of the radio hosts in our new family program for Latin America called La Guia de la Familia: Abba Padre (The Family’s Guide: Abba Father).  He is recording messages developed to help guide people in their daily struggles with personal relationships.  Santos is a licensed family counselor in the Dominican Republic.  He has a unique understanding of the needs of families, from metropolitan cities to people located in some of the most remote villages in Latin America; may he be guided by the Lord to speak to their various needs.

We look forward to many lessons from Santos that will lead families closer to Jesus and his saving grace.

Santos Feliz Ruiz’s answers to these five sincere questions may give you just a little insight into his life.

  1. As a couple who has been married 33 years, one thing we enjoy doing together is…

…spending the day together enjoying the river or the beach.  Our marriage is based on our love for God and we grow closer to each other when we take time to do something fun together.

  1. A spiritual experience that impacted my life was…

…receiving a scholarship to study the Bible, at the Pan American Bible Institute, confirmed my belief that I was destined to share God’s loving message to people everywhere.

  1. When I was a child, one of my favorite heroes was…

…King David, a man of strength, responsibility, and one who was loved of God.  As a child, growing up in the Dominican Republic, these qualities made him my hero.

4.   Recording radio programs for broadcasting in Latin America is exciting to
      me because…
…I am able to share God’s Word with millions of people at the same time through the use of
media.  This completes my main ministery goal, to bring people seeking a new life into the
      kingdom of God.

 5. A great day for me is….the Lord’s Day, Sunday.

Teach me to do your will, for you are my God;
May your good Spirit lead me on level ground.
