In the Arabic culture, bread is the most important food item. The colloquial Arabic word for bread is “ayesh” – from the same root as “living.”

God certainly cares about our physical bread, life sustenance, as Jesus taught us in the Lord’s Prayer to ask, “Give us today our daily bread.” However, there is more to it than just the bread we need to eat to stay alive.

“For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world… Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty…’” (John 6:33, 35)

It’s interesting that the issue of water is mentioned a lot in the Bible. The Lord said, “My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.” (Jeremiah 2:13) Jesus told the Samaritan woman, “Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” (John 7:38)

We broadcast a number of segments that qualify as “physical bread and water” – programs that deal with health, food, finances, relationships, etc. More importantly, we air new episodes in the series “Our Daily Bread” – a short and to-the-point devotion that focuses on the Word of God, the real power that gives us life.

While we cannot help people over there with physical water, we can offer them the “Living Water” that can change their lives—both on earth and eternally. A segment titled “Rivers of Living Water” presents the good news of the Bible to the thirsty souls.

We pray that the Lord may use this “radio bread and water” to feed the millions of hungry listeners and quench their thirst all over the world. Please continue to pray for our team and our listeners.
