It is so good to be able to celebrate things like a new gift, a new friend, a child’s birthday, a wedding anniversary, and so on. I have a daughter named Julia, today she is 6 years old and she loves to celebrate birthdays, especially her of course. She likes it so much the next 3 birthday themes are already chosen. For her, everything is a party, from preparation to the most dreamed day, and the most interesting is everything after hours of fun, she leaves the party thinking she did not enjoy everything she could.

Why am I mentioning about birthday and celebration? This October we are celebrating 1 year of the Word Alegre Program on air. October 28, 2018, was a milestone in the history of World Christian Broadcasting as we broadcast the first program entirely in Portuguese direct from Madagascar to the world. Just like Julia, I get very excited about this big event and look forward to celebrating many more. My expectation is that more and more people will have the opportunity to know in their native language the word of God.

In this first year, I can say it was a success, because with each passing day more people have been following our schedule. I always get email messages and whatsapp messages encouraging us to keep going, people wanting to know God more, and dozens of sent QSL cards.

When I look back, I get very excited about the potential we have and what we can have over the years and throughout our program. A few months ago I put in my WGO about one of our listeners, Antonio Argolo, and I want to put again here in this article an excerpt of what he said about our program and also a new excerpt from Gustavo:

Antonio Argolo

The program in Portuguese sounds perfect to me, and I think it’s nice when an evangelical program is able to cover religious matters with songs, reading, reflections, and also including matters related to human behaviour. We need all this very much, especially because the world is in a time of inversion of values and the church can greatly help by acting as a mediator.

Rádio Palavra Alegre reminds me of RTM and HCJB, which I used to listen to when I was a teenager. I remember listening to programs for children where they were very interactive. Antonio Argolo

It is with great pleasure that I come to share how blessed I am to hear this program I hear whenever I can the messages that edify me the songs. I feel immense joy to tune in this station was what was missing on the radio. Glad you value the shortwave. I also hear the program in the Spanish version of La Voz Alegre at 6,180 KHz and the program Palavra Alegre in Portuguese at 11,965 KHz. I have even shared with many fellow radio listeners who also accompany the program and were pleased with the quality of programming transmitted. Gustavo

These messages are indeed a great encouragement for us to continue our evangelistic work through the short waves. But we don’t stop there, because we have a soul that converted to the Word of God : Eduardo. After hearing so much about God’s message through our Purpose-Driven Life segment, he converted and is now part of the church, following in the footsteps of Jesus every day.

Special thanks to the entire World Christian Broadcasting team for their support and trust. Thanks to our President Andy Baker who has been making several visits in various parts of the country seeking support so we can continue to carry the message of Christ. Thanks to Gayle Crowe for his daily help and partnership, especially in opportunities to talk about work plans and development. Finally, thanks to a great friend and my faith tutor, Forrest Gates.

So may we look to Christ each day and celebrate this remarkable moment by always giving thanks to God for everything. God bless you all!
