Welcome to February. Jesus Christ remains our Lord, today, tomorrow, and forever. A lot has happened recently in the political climate of sub-Saharan Africa. We are glad to report that our listening audience continues to increase monthly. Thousands of people are listening to the gospel of Jesus Christ through our shortwave radio broadcast of African Pathways programs, others are checking us out over the internet at www.africanpathways.org. Like Paul, the Apostles encourage us to “let the word of Christ dwell richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God,” Colossians 3:16. We encourage all our listeners in sub-Saharan Africa and other areas to remain focused in the word of God. God is at work all the time despite all the uncertainties in many sub-Saharan African countries of the world.

One of the listeners wrote from Mali asking what we think about the current situation in Burkina Faso. To our readers, on Monday, 24th of January 2022, the Burkina Faso military ousted an elected President Roch March Christian Kabore who had been president since 2015, and suspended the country’s constitution. The army cited president Kabore’s inability to quell violence from Islamic extremists. Burkina Faso is located in West Africa and has over 21 million people. Three other countries in the sub-Saharan region recently taken over by the military through coup are Mali in August 2020, Chad in April 2021, and another coup in Mali in May 2021. The African Union suspended Burkina Faso on Monday, January 31, 2021, until the military can restore the constitution and the ECOWAS countries are scheduling a meeting to impose sanctions on Burkina Faso.

We want to encourage all our listeners who are affected by military coups in any of these countries to continue to remain faithful to God and read the word of God daily. Please pray for God to intervene in this entire process. We have some scriptures to share with you:

  • Deuteronomy 3:22 – Do not be afraid of them; the Lord your God himself will fight for you.
  • Deuteronomy 31:8 – It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
  • Psalm 27:1 – The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall l fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
  • Psalm 86:17 – Show me a sign of your favor, that those who hate me may see and be put to shame.
  • Psalm 119:76 – Let your steadfast love comfort me according to your servant.

We will keep all of you in our prayers.
